Best Places to Work 

For the fourth year in a row, Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) was named one of the Best Places to Work in South Carolina. This program was created by SC Biz News in partnership with the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Best Companies Group.

MPW was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.  This is the 23rd year MPW has received this prestigious award. 

The GFOA presented MPW with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Annul Budget Document beginning July 1, 2018.  This was the 8th consecutive year that the MPW received this prestigious award.  In order to receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, as an operating guide, as a financial plan, and a communications device.

Clay Duffie, General Manager, was awarded the L.A. Graham Leadership in Management Award. This award was presented by the SC American Water Works Association Management Committee. This award was presented to Mr. Duffie for demonstrating exceptional performance, professional expertise, and tireless dedication to the water industry.


David P. Niesse, P.E., Engineering Manager, was awarded the George Warren Fuller Award Established in memory of George Warren Fuller in 1937, this award is presented annually by the American Water Works Association to the sections' respective selected members for their distinguished service to the water supply field in commemoration of the sound engineering skill...the brilliant diplomatic talent...and the constructive leadership which characterized the life of George Warren Fuller.

Team members Kevin Ganley, Seth Duncan, Patrick Ross, Troy Newton, and Tyler Waterhouse won the SC Operations Challenge Overall Championship.  The team will compete in the National Operations Challenge in the Fall. 

Team members Tyler Thames and Lenard Sinclair won the SC Hydrant Hysteria Championship during the SC Environmental Conference in 2018.  

DHEC Facility Excellence Award 

Mount Pleasant Waterworks' Wastewater Operations Department was presented with the DHEC Facility Excellence Award for both the Rifle Range Road Wastewater Treatment Plant and Center Street Wastewater Treatment Plant.

This award is a voluntary program for companies committed to continuous environmental improvement in order to protect and preserve South Carolina's environment.
