Mount Pleasant Waterworks Budget Workshop and Public Hearing
Financial Planning for Fiscal Year 2014

Mount Pleasant, S.C.  – May 13, 2013 - As part of its annual budget process, each year Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) holds a series of meetings, workshops and a public hearing. The next Budget Workshop will be held at 5:00 PM on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the MPW Operations Center.  A public hearing to receive input from customers will be held at 5:30 PM on Monday June 3, 2013 at the same location.

Mount Pleasant Waterworks Commissioners are considering the following:
•    Ending the collection of the Highway 17 Special Assessment ($3.00 per Residential Equivalent Unit) on June 30, 2013;
•    A 7.5% increase in water and wastewater basic facility charges and volumetric rates; and
•    Adjustments to various ancillary charges.

The rate increase equates to $4.07 per month for the typical customer using 5,000 gallons of water.  The net increase realized by the average residential customer will be $1.07 per month.

The rate increase is necessary to fund capital improvements of aging infrastructure. The increase is scheduled to take effect with all bills after June 30, 2013.

No changes are proposed for impact fees.
Even with this increase, MPW’s average residential bill remains the lowest in Charleston County.   All meetings are open to the public and the Commission welcomes input from customers.  We encourage customers to participate in these meetings and learn more about your water and wastewater service.
