Citizen's Water Academy - Currently Accepting Applications

Mount Pleasant Waterworks is excited to kick-off the Fall 2018 Citizen’s Water Academy. The academy is the perfect way to learn about your local utility. Classes begin October 13th, and the deadline to apply is Monday, October 1st.
Through the academy, Mount Pleasant Waterworks is hoping to expand and sustain a diverse network of influencers who are willing to provide feedback and serve as outreach ambassadors on dealing with growth and water issues.
The Academy guides and educates citizens on all operations of Mount Pleasant Waterworks. Academy participants will tour key facilities, learn about the challenges Mount Pleasant Waterworks faces and have the opportunity to meet key staff members and receive insight into their water and wastewater provider.
Mount Pleasant Waterworks will, in turn, gain valuable insight into customers understanding, needs, and priorities.
Goals for the Academy are to:
- Improve customers understanding;
- Strengthen the relationship between customers and the utility; and
- Develop a pool of knowledgeable customers to act as ambassadors for Mount Pleasant Waterworks.
Due to the limited number of available seats, acceptance is not guaranteed. A total of 50 members will be accepted. Applicants who are not selected to participate will be considered for future academy sessions. Participation in the Academy is on a voluntary basis and is not subject to any form of monetary compensation. Mount Pleasant Waterworks is an equal opportunity employer. Saturday, October 13th: Academy Kick-Off & Facility Tours (8:00 am – 12:00 noon)
Thursday, October 18th: Water & Wastewater Operations & Maintenance
Thursday, November 1st: Capital Improvement Program & Development
Thursday, November 15th: Finance & Technical Services
Thursday, November 29th: Customer Services & Human Resources
Thursday, December 13th: Communications / Board of Commissioners (Academy Wrap-Up)
With the exception of the first session, all sessions will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the Public Meeting Room at Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ Operations Center.
