Rifle Range Road & Long Grove Drive (Seaside Farms Shopping Area) Wastewater Overflow Notice

November 11, 2020 – A wastewater overflow occured at the intersection of Rifle Range Road and Long Grove Drive at the entrance of the Seaside Farms shopping district. The wastewater spill was reported at 2:45 p.m. on November 9, 2020. The spill was due to a break in a 20-inch force main impacted by crown corrosion. The overflow entered a retention pond located in the back of Franke Homes, adjacent to Long Grove.
As of the time of this notice, Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) has replaced 20-feet of pipe and installed a new 20-inch valve. MPW has also recovered wastewater, sand and debris using vacuum trucks as well as aerated and flushed the pond with potable water. Per South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control requirements, MPW has been collecting water samples from the retention pond since the day of the spill and consulting with SCDHEC to assess and monitor water conditions.
Public notice warning signs are posted at the location of the spill and will remain so until water conditions return to normal. The public is asked to refrain from using the water in any way while the warning signs remain on site, The includes boating, kayaking, and fishing.
