Q: What is the Service Line Care Program?
A: The Service Line Care Program is a service contract that protects homeowners from the high costs of water and wastewater service line repairs or replacements. Homeowners are responsible for service lines on their property. Homeowner's insurance generally does not cover these expensive types of repairs. Mount Pleasant Waterworks is providing this Program to give customers enhanced service.
 
Q: Is the Service Line Care Program a Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ program?
A: The Service Line Care Program is fully managed by Mount Pleasant Waterworks. All repairs or replacements will be made by Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ employees or prequalified contractors working for Mount Pleasant Waterworks.
 
Q: Is the Service Line Care Program an insurance program?
A: It works as a service contract in that you pay a low fee to cover a potential large cost. The Service Line Care Program is a service contract designed to provide peace of mind protection for homeowners and cover the costs of repairs for water and wastewater service line problems. There are no claim forms to complete or submit and there are no deductibles for the homeowner.
 
Q: Are repairs like this the responsibility of the Mount Pleasant Waterworks?
A: Mount Pleasant Waterworks is not responsible for the water service line that runs from your home to Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ water meter or the wastewater service line that runs from your home to MPW’s wastewater main.
 
Q: Is this some new charge or fee for homeowners?
A: This is not a new charge or fee for homeowners. You have the option to enroll in Service Line Care Program.
 
Q: Are repairs like this covered by a homeowner's policy?
A: No, this is considered a normal home maintenance expense and most homeowners’ policies do not cover these costs.
 
Q: Who is eligible for the Service Line Care Program?
A: Most single-family residential properties are eligible. Only property owners – not tenants- can enroll in this Program. Owner occupied homes are billed monthly. Landlords wishing to enroll in this program for a tenant occupied home must pay annually.
 
Q: What is covered by the Service Line Care Program?
A: Leaks in the customer’s water service line or clogs and blockages in the customer’s wastewater service line.
 
Q: Is there an annual limit?
A: Yes, $7,500 per year.
 
Q: Who will repair the water and wastewater service line for the homeowner?
A: A Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ employee or licensed, and insured professional plumbing contractor dispatched from Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ network of approved local contractors, will complete all the repairs.
 
Q: Can the homeowner just hire someone to make repairs if they are needed, or do the repairs themselves?
A: As all repairs have to meet local and state regulations, it is recommended that only licensed, professional contractors complete repairs for the safety and welfare of the entire community. That's why Mount Pleasant Waterworks qualified employee or a qualified local contractor who knows the codes and can make the repairs safely and cost effectively.
 
Q: How do homeowners pay for the Service Line Care Program?
A: The monthly charge will be added to your regular bill.
 
Q: Is the Program offered to landlords?
A: Landlords can enroll in the program, but must pay the fee by check or credit card annually.
 
Q: Will the Service Line Care Program cover the costs of landscaping repairs?
A: Yes, the site will be returned to an agreed upon condition and will be agreed upon prior to work being completed. This program will cover replacement of sod, plants, driveways, and sidewalks
